LazyTV is a ace little addon that I recommend everyone to install. What the addon does is scan your TV library and find the next unwatched episode from all of the TV Shows you have. When you launch the addon it brings up a list of those episodes making it easy for you to just start watching from where you left off.
There are options usable which allow you to tune the default behaviour and you will find details of these after the installation guide. So if you would like to see exactly what you can do with the addon then just skip to the LazyTV Guide.
As a frequent Kodi user I recommend using a VPN service to unlock restricted content and anonymise you online. PureVPN is the top at doing both!
Steps To Install LazyTV
- Open Kodi
- Select SYSTEM
- Select addons
- Select Install from Repository
- Select Kodi addon Repository
- Select Program addons
- Select LazyTV
- Select Install
- Wait for Add-on enabled notification
LazyTV is now installed and ready to use.
When you launch Kodi LazyTV will need to scan your library to do what it needs to setup. This means that you cannot open the addon instantly. If you do try to open it you will get a prompt saying it is not ready. The larger your library the longer it will take. You will see a prompt when the scan has completed and the addon is ready to use. Read on to find out more about what you can do with this addon
To change the settings on LazyTV
- Select PROGRAMS
- Highlight – DO NOT SELECT – LazyTV
- Open the Context Menu (C on your keyboard, right click with a mouse, long press on touch screen devices or Menu button on your remote)
- Select addon Settings
- The settings screen will now open. So lets go through each section to see what is on offer from this ace little addon.
General
In here you set the Primary Function for LazyTV. Your ranges are:
- Produce a list of next episodes for each TV Series
- When you launch LazyTV it will show the next unwatched episode from all the TV Shows in your TV Library
- Create and launch randomised playlist
- When you launch LazyTV you will see a list of random episodes from all the TV Shows in your TV Library
- Let me choose on launch
- Launch LazyTV with this activated and you will be asked if you would like a list or a randomised list. You can then select Show me – this gives you your next unwatched episodes list – or you can choose Surprise me – this will create a random list of episodes
Only populate with selected TV Shows
If you enable this then you have 2 ranges:
- Choose shows by Manual Selection
- You can choose which shows from your library you wish to see details of the next unwatched episode
- Choose shows by Smart Playlist
- Choosing this option allows you to select a smart playlist from your playlist diversity to use as the default or you can set it to allow you to select a different smart playlist each time you launch the addon
Some shows are fine to watch out of order
If you have some TV Shows that you do not mind what order the episodes appear in then enabling this will allow you to choose which TV Shows theyre. I like to use this for old shows that I still appreciate and there is no real storyline that you need to follow.
This setting requires you to have a playlist with TV Shows in. If you do not but want to enable the feature then also enable Create and maintain smart playlist that is directly underneath.
Player Options
The following settings are for when the Primary Function is set as Randomised Playlist
- Numbers of shows in playlist
- Allow multiple episodes of same show
- Include episodes from unwatched TV series
- Begin partially watched episodes from their resume point
- Begin with latest in progress episode
- Display episode details when played
- Include unwatched movies
- Include wacthed movies
- Movie weight
- Ignore TV shows (movies only)
The smart playlist can be found under VIDEOS > Playlists > LazyTV
List Options
In here you can tune the settings for when you have the primary function set as Next Episodes
- LazyTV Interface
- Change the appearance: List, Posters, Big Screen
- Return to LazyTV after playback
- Returns to your list of unwatched TV Shows
- Limit the Number of Shows
- Select the amount of shows you want in your list. If you have not selected which shows you want in the list from the General section then you will get a list that is produced by the setting below this
- Sort by…
- Select how you want the shows to appear. If you enabled the above setting (Limit number of shows) then this is a good setting to play around with otherwise you will get a list of shows in alphabetical order
- Last Watched
- Show Name
- Season
- No. of Watched Episodes
- No. of Unwatched Episodes
- Select how you want the shows to appear. If you enabled the above setting (Limit number of shows) then this is a good setting to play around with otherwise you will get a list of shows in alphabetical order
- Reverse Order
- Exclude Random Play Shows
- If you have setup some Random Episodes they will be excluded from your playlist
Other Settings
- Prompt to watch next usable episode
- Enable this and you will see a message if the next episode in the series youre watching is in your library so you can watch it
- Prompt Duration
- Change the length of time the above prompt stays on your screen
- Default action
- Choose if you want the next episode to play automatically or now
- Notify if previous episode is usable
Once you have tuneed your settings you can launch LazyTV from your PROGRAMS menu on the home screen. It will take a few goes before you get it set exactly the way you want it but in the end it will be worth it. If you choose not to change anything and leave the default settings that is fine as it works straight out of the box as it were.
